In 2012 my husband and I wanted to go on vacation but couldn’t afford to take one. So we came up with the idea of seeing places in the state we live in, Virginia. We live in Richmond, the capital, and I was born and raised in Richmond. My husband went to high school in Newport News, VA. I realized that even though I have lived in Richmond my whole life (except for when I went to college), I hadn’t seen much of what makes Richmond and Virginia unique as a state. As a child I remember going to Washington, DC a lot for school field trips, but I never went to Monticello, Mount Vernon, Natural Bridge, etc… Hard to believe, but you get the picture. My husband and I decided to do various weekend trips to see places in Virginia. This blog is about those weekends of being a tourist in my own state.
